1) Is it possible to see a sample of your curriculum?
Take the Virtual Tour where you or your child will
have the opportunity for limited interaction with the curriculum. You
will also be able to view many exercises available to current students.
2)
Is there any group time (peer interaction) in these classes? Or, is it
more like a correspondence course?
Yes, students are able to have peer interaction in
both chats and in GardenScapes, a virtual world where your child is able
to interact with other students attending Garden Schools and practice
the concepts they are learning.
A correspondence style of teaching is used when necessary due to limited
student internet access.
3) What is the typical teacher to student ratio?
Garden Schools is not a typical school. On
different days, your child will have interaction with many teachers
depending on their course of study and the level at which they are
working. While we try to keep the ratio low, there is no typical
teacher to student ratio.
The curriculum is designed to maximize one to one attention between your
child and their teachers, while still providing opportunities for
interaction in a classroom like setting.
4) Are you accredited?
Garden Schools is accredited through
Destiny
Based Education Accreditation. Garden Schools is the flagship
effort of Destiny Based Education. Destiny Based Education Accrediting
exceeds all of the regional minimums of every state in the United States
or any International Baccalaureate Program.
5)
Is Garden Schools affiliated with any church denomination? If so,
which one and how closely are you affiliated?
While Garden
Schools is not affiliated with any particular church denomination, our
teachers come from a broad spectrum of Christian denominations. Our
administration and founder are baptized believers who have had the
opportunity to speak and minister in many different denominations. Also, please see the
Garden Schools Statement of Faith.
We work hard to
make sure that Christ is the center of all that we do, and not any
specific doctrine. While we do have Bible classes, the focus is on
reading the Bible and learning to study the Word for yourself. We
recognize that the parents have the primary responsibility of teaching
their children about God, and we are here to support that teaching.
6)
How long have you been open?
Garden Schools started in 1993
assisting homeschoolers via Usenet and email. Development of Garden
Schools in its current form began in 1996.
Garden Schools opened as a private Christian
school in the fall of 1999.
7) How many students are enrolled at Garden
Schools?
Not including our satellite schools,
who do use our virtual facilities, Garden Schools has capped the
enrollment at 300, but hopes to enlarge this number as time and abilities
allow.
