Burton's Garden of Schools Philosophy of Education, Learning and Teaching

The basis of the Burton's Garden of Schools philosophy centers on providing opportunities and addressing each students individual nature with the respect that each of us deserves. We honor the diverse nature of humankind by serving our differences with an education, unrivaled by any in our known history, thanks to technology that caught up to our vision for education. To say that we are education reformists would be an understatement. At Burton's Garden of Schools we are creating an entirely new way to address the educational needs of our modern world. Recognizing that much of the world has relied upon a ministry of their federal, state, or local government to provide them with a 'one size fits all' education, Burton's Garden of Schools individualizes and creates a unique educational experience for each student.

Treating education like a not-for-profit or nonprofit charity limits and lowers the exposure and opportunity of every citizen. Public education is and always has been a ministry of the state, operating as a public funded charity. Many private institutions operate under a similar model with the same expectations and usually the same outcome.
Burton's Garden of Schools provides services that are not being addressed even adequately by most opinions, including those who work in or work to support this failing pillar in our society. From the arts and humanities to the interlocking nature of all subjects, making them applicable to everyday life, Burton's Garden of Schools strives to create an atmosphere where students have broad opportunities to achieve their destiny.

Burton's Garden of Schools teaching occurs from multiple vantage points, letting initial learning take place in or from the students strengths in personality or learning style while following up on all concepts from each students weakest vantage point so they learn to learn no matter how opportunities present themselves in the future. When we say children bloom at Burton's Garden of Schools we are saying that they are allowed to shine in their strengths and gifts while they are gaining the mastery of overcoming whatever may come their way by meeting their weaknesses head on. Balancing the understanding of your own personal talents and difficulties with the tools, skills and most importantly the opportunity to excel and overcome is what builds a strong individual ready to heed the call on their life.

Empowering the family to oversee their children's education
In the United States, as well as in many locations around the world, public education has been given the legal status of
in loco parentis (in place of the parent).  Many municipalities have taken this legal status to the point of prosecuting families that have chosen to educate their children at home. Burton's Garden of Schools returns the authority of the parent to the parent or guardian of the child.
Children are a gift from God. With this gift comes great authority and responsibility.  There comes a point in every child's education that the child's needs exceed what their parents or traditional education is able to provide.  Burton's Garden of Schools acts to empower the parent with resources rather than to act in place of the parent.

What does Burton's Garden of Schools offer students?
Traditional education provides conformity, a limited definition of citizenship, competition, and training to fit within the industrial model of society.  This system is based upon ensuring that every student meets a minimum standard in core subjects.
Burton's Garden of Schools philosophy and curriculum provides a balanced learning environment for the modern knowledge worker society.  Using a system that allows for flexibility and the unique nature of each student, Burton's Garden of Schools provides an education that conforms to the child instead of demanding that the child conform.
Burton's Garden of Schools understands that individuals make up the citizens of each society, and each member of that society has something unique to contribute.  As members of a global society, it is imperative that each student have a broad understanding of the world within which they live.
While competition can be healthy, an exercise in survival of the fittest tends to lift only those who conform to the current model while minimizing, maiming and even destroying those who are not equipped to compete in that arena.  Burton's Garden of Schools provides an appropriate environment where competition is healthy, where every student finds their arena to excel.

Burton's Garden of Schools graduates have qualities, skills, and opportunities open to them others do not have. The Christian focus is one of action and fully applicable in day to day life.

To teach at Burton's Garden of Schools is to be called to the ministry of education to utilize the spiritual gift of Teaching.

Burton's Garden of Schools has two divisions: The Greenhouse and Burton's Garden of Schools
The Greenhouse is design for those students who have not yet reached their 12th birthday.  In the Greenhouse, the focus is on learning to learn, and developing a basic understanding across a broad range of subjects.
Burton's Garden of Schools is designed for students age 12 through 19 who are ready to begin their formal education.  This unique age division allows the students to attribute all that they learn toward meeting their graduation requirements.  This method ensures that each student receives a thorough and complete covering of all of the basics, yet allows the student to explore and learn in areas that traditional education simply does not have time to cover.
Students are able to progress at their own rate.  If you are strong in the Sciences, you are able to move at a pace that you will find challenging, yet still receive help with subjects that you find more rigorous.
